Today’s lesson: How to Imitate a Famous Copywriter

PROMPT 1:

I am a copywriter for a company that produces widgets. I need to write 5 new Facebook ad headlines and I’m looking for inspiration. Who are some famous copywriters whose styles I may want to consider for these headlines?
PROMPT 2:

Gary Halbert’s style sounds like what I’m looking for. Can you give me 5 Facebook ad headlines in his style? I'd like to emphasize the quality and affordability of our widgets.
PROMPT 3:

Those are good but they sound a little too salesy. Can you make them sound less “direct response”?
PROMPT 4:

Those variations are a bit hokey. Can you try some new variations, but this time in the voice, style and character of David Ogilvy?

I wouldn’t use any of these headlines, but then again no one actually sells “widgets”.

If you provide real details about your real product or service, ChatGPT is much more likely to produce copy that sounds human and reflects the vibe you’re after.

The point of this example is to illustrate the iterative approach to getting better copy with ChatGPT.
